The Bridge Down East after school center on Harker’s Island has been a special project we have been working on- to start a community garden there for the kids to learn how to grow vegetables and also to eat them!
Our first “planting” of peas, spinach and lettuce was March 13 and more to come! Stay tuned!
Carteret Local Food Network has coordinated this project along with The Bridge, partnering with the Health Department and Cooperative Extension. The community has been very generous in donations of time and supplies to build it and tools to grow a garden with.
Many thanks to all, and especially the Master Gardeners who are on hand for teaching and supporting the kids.
