Carteret County’s local beekeeping club meets monthly and plans to have a list of beekeepers who have honey for sale or ability to capture a swarm. Local honey does have proven ability to mitigate seasonal allergies because the bees pick up local pollen on their legs to bring back to their hive for food; you then taste a little honey each day to build immunity, such a prescription!

Tanya Watson has built a lovely homestead along Harlowe Creek off Rt 101 raising bees, rabbits, and beautiful flowers. Started in 2019, Mary and Jeff Miller began this very successful year-round farmers’ market which runs Saturdays from 9-2 rain or shine. They regularly host up to 14 farmers ranging from pork/ beef/ chicken and eggs/ seafood to produce, flowers/ herbs/ honey. Fruit and vegetable farms represented are Glenn Howell, grayzfarm, Crystal Coast Microgreens, and Bear Ridge Farms; Mills Farm and Peluso Farm from Onslow County sell frozen beef and pork. Eatable Mushrooms sells fresh and dried mushrooms, Two Bees Farm brings flowers and honey, and Pat Garner sells fresh seafood from his business in the parking lot.

Carteret’s oldest market is the Morehead City Curb Market started in 1927, and is operated from an historical market building on Evans and 13th Streets, and is managed by Janet Perryman and the MC Parks and Rec Dept. This Saturday morning market runs from 8-1 starting Earth Day on Saturdays through the end of November, plus third Thursday evenings from 6-8.

The Olde Beaufort Farmers’ Market was founded in May 2013 and has been growing ever since. Hosted under the lovely live oaks along the Carteret County Courthouse drive, Cindy Bunch manages 60 vendors each Saturday from 9-1 starting April 12 to November 29 plus a holiday market December 13. Produce is from JW Merrell Farm and Paradise Produce; meats are produced by Shenk Family Farm (chicken eggs, frozen chicken and pork), and seafood fishermen Darden Seafood (oysters, frozen shrimp), and Ophelia Inlet (smoked fish, crab dip, duck eggs,frozen duck).
