The 2017 Farms Food, and Friends dinner events showcased local farms and farmers as well as outstanding food, raised or harvested in Carteret County and prepared by stellar Carteret restaurant chefs. An average of 40 – 50 people attended each event held in May, June, August and October.
Each event attracted friends and neighbors who enjoyed fresh, local food and the company of others who care about sustainable food practices. It was incredible to see our guests gathered together to obtain information on and learn about current efforts surrounding the local food movement.
Farms offering their locations for the events included Underground Farm & Learning Center (Beaufort and Smyrna) www.UndergroundFarmNC.org, Garner Farms (Newport) www.GarnerFarmsNC.com, and The Barnyard (Newport) www.TheBarnyardNC.com.
Other outstanding Carteret County farms provided the well-raised protein as well as fresh veggies and fruit served. For each event, the main dishes served were varied and ranged from BBQ pork, shrimp, sausage, fish and duck, turkey and lamb.
As a reminder, these farms / farmers — and many more — are listed on our website: www.carteretlocalfood.org/fresh-food.
A special thank you also goes out to local Carteret County chefs who graciously offered their special talent and skill supporting the events: Jennings Wright, The Accidental Bakery (www.AccidentalBakery.com); Kenny Collins, The Boathouse (www.FrontStreetVillage.com); and Charles Park, Beaufort Grocery (www.BeaufortGrocery.com) and Anthony Garnett, Blue Ocean Market (www.BlueOceanMarketNC.com)
Proceeds from the events support CLFN’s education programs.
